This stage occurs in three phases:
Physical development: in this stage, the child will mostly sit alone and this is achieved at the age of about 7 months. As an infant the kids will now start crawling, some even know how to sit and even others do learn to walk too. The kid is able to assist when they are being dressed. Others want to feed themselves and don’t want to be fully fed by the parents.
Language development: this occurs mainly between the age of around 12 and 18 months, that’s when the kids start using some words purposefully knowing the meaning of what they are saying. The toddler is able to understand and differentiate their parent’s voice from that of others. The toddler start babbling and it is at this time that they are able to say words such a papa and mama.
Cognitive development: in this stage, the toddler is now able to differentiate between family and strangers and normally they will get away from people they don’t recognize. They become very curious and mostly you find them looking for hidden staffs. They will start stacking things together all in the name of curiosity trying to figure out what would come out of their act. Still in this stage they are able to point to things they want using their index finger.

Atypical development is common in this stage whereby a child does not follow the normally expected curve. A child of about 15 months is unable to stand up by themselves by pulling themselves is a clear example of atypical development. Parents may influence their kid’s learning and development by being examples to their kids and show them how things are done and not just sit down and tell the children and expect them to do it or engage themselves in a play with their children.
